A later Rose map, even more obviously depicting the British perspective, is "John Bull and his Friends" from 1900 in which John Bull (Great Britain) faces a continent full of hostile, disinterested, or preoccupied "friends" and an even more threatening octopus-Russia, reaching out in all directions.
